[General] Annapolis

Spent a teriffic day in Annapolis today.

First, I dropped John off at Garrett Park Guitars for a little play time for him, then took the camera out and through its paces for a half an hour or so. Just basically shot whatever looked interesting--and believe me, there's a lot that's interesting about Annapolis. This is my favorite of the day:

There are 8 more that I thought came out OK (or at least didn't totally suck) here.

After the photo tour, we stopped at a Mexican restaurant that we have walked past a dozen times in the last year. I can't believe that we never stopped in before today. The food was amazing. Good, fresh salsa. Relatively authentic queso with chorizo. John had some spicy pork soft taco thing that he said was fantastic and my fajitas were quite good. The revelation, though, was the sopapilla. They took the lightest, fluffiest, puff-pastriest sopapilla and, near as I can tell, dunked it in butter, sprinkled it with cinnamon and sugar and then drizzled it with honey. And, as if it needed to be any worse for you, they served it with ice cream. Best. Dessert. Ever.

After that, we went camera shopping--because I want a digital SLR and I don't really care that I just got a new camera. The new camera--as cool as it is, as much better than my old camera--has just convinced me that I really, really want to do this seriously. And to take serious pictures, you really eventually need a serious camera.

As I am a notorious dilettante, John think that a mandatory waiting period should be imposed on this purchase. Play with the digicam for 6 months, and I will buy you whatever you want, he says. Well, I am a dilettante but I want the camera now! The only good thing about the wait, though, is that it will give me time to really research what's out there and see what the best camera for me is. So, I am waiting. Not happy about it, but waiting.

While at the mall, I had a 10-minute shiatsu massage. Yeah, in the mall. Who knew that a small Chinese man could inflict such torture? But, hey, my neck feels better, even if I do think that I will have a huge bruise on my upper arm. Overall, of the good--but not for the low-pain-threshold group.

On the way home, we stopped at Borders and I looked at more photography books. Yeah, I know: obsess much?

It was a really great day.
